Pre- & Post-Surgery Rehabilitation The Half of Surgery That Happens After
The operation fixes the structure. What you get back afterwards depends on the rehabilitation — and on how strong you went in.

Go in stronger, come out further ahead
Prehabilitation — training in the weeks before an operation — consistently shortens recovery. Patients who arrive at surgery with better strength and range regain function faster and leave hospital sooner.
Afterwards, we follow your surgeon's technique precisely on weight-bearing, range limits and timelines, then progress you through each phase as the tissue allows. We report milestones back so your surgical team can see how recovery is tracking.
- Protocols matched to your surgeon's specific instructions, not a generic template
- Prehab programme in the weeks before your operation date
- Milestone reporting back to your surgical team
- Scar management and swelling control from the earliest safe point
Before and after the operation
The surgical pathways we support most often. Bring your operative notes to the first session.
-
Total Knee Replacement
Range, quadriceps strength and gait restored to each post-operative milestone.
-
Total Hip Replacement
Safe movement within precautions, then strength and walking without a limp.
-
ACL Reconstruction
The full nine-to-twelve month pathway to criteria-based return to sport.
-
Rotator Cuff Repair
Protected early range, then graded loading once the repair can take it.
-
Spinal Discectomy & Fusion
Staged return to bending, lifting and sitting tolerance after spinal surgery.
-
Fracture Fixation
Restoring range and strength once the surgeon clears loading of the fixation.
-
Arthroscopy
Rapid restoration of range and strength after keyhole knee or shoulder surgery.
-
Prehabilitation
Four to six weeks of conditioning before your date, to recover faster afterwards.

Protocol first, progression second
Post-operative tissue has rules. We work inside them, and push hard everywhere we safely can.

01
Protocol-Led Progression
Range and weight-bearing kept precisely within your surgeon's instructions.
-
02
Swelling & Scar Management
Early control of oedema and scar mobility, which limits range if left alone.
-
03
Progressive Strengthening
Rebuilding the muscle lost to surgery and immobilisation, phase by phase.
-
04
Gait Retraining
Removing the limp before it becomes a habit that overloads the other side.
-
05
Electrotherapy
Muscle stimulation and pain modulation when post-operative inhibition is high.
-
06
Milestone Reporting
Written progress updates to your surgeon at each review point.
From prehab to discharge
A surgical recovery has clear phases. Knowing which one you are in is half of staying patient.
-
1 Before surgery
Prehabilitation
Four to six weeks of strength and range work so you enter the operation in the best shape possible.
-
2 Weeks 0–6
Protected Phase
Swelling control, protected range and safe movement strictly within your surgeon's limits.
-
3 Weeks 6–14
Strengthening
Progressive loading as restrictions lift, with milestones re-measured every fourth session.
-
4 Weeks 14+
Return to Function
Sport, work or daily demands rebuilt, then discharge with a maintenance programme.
Stage one costs nothing and takes twenty minutes.
Book your assessmentWhat makes our care different
-
One therapist, start to finish
You are not passed between staff. The physiotherapist who assesses you is the one who treats you through to discharge.
-
Objective progress tracking
Range, strength and function are measured and charted — so "getting better" is a number, not a feeling.
-
Honest session estimates
We tell you upfront roughly how many sessions this should take, and we tell you when you no longer need us.
-
Comprehensive initial assessment
A thorough consultation with a physiotherapist before you commit to anything.
-
Extended evening hours
Appointments until 8:30pm on weekdays so treatment fits around work rather than competing with it.
-
Fully equipped gym floor
Proper loading equipment on site — you cannot rebuild strength with resistance bands alone.

I did six weeks of prehab before my knee replacement. My surgeon commented on how quickly I got moving afterwards — I was off the frame in days.

They spoke to my surgeon when my range stalled at week seven and adjusted the plan. That kind of joined-up care is rare.

After my discectomy I was frightened of bending at all. They rebuilt it in stages and explained why each stage was safe.

Surgical rehabilitation FAQs
Still unsure? Speak to a physiotherapist on +91 99900 96269 — no charge for the conversation.
How soon after surgery should physiotherapy start?
Often within days. Early controlled movement reduces stiffness and swelling and improves the final result. We work strictly within your surgeon's weight-bearing and range restrictions, so bring your operative notes or discharge summary.
What is prehabilitation and is it worth it?
Prehab is four to six weeks of targeted strength and range work before your operation. Patients who go into surgery stronger consistently regain function faster afterwards. If your date is more than a month away, it is worth doing.
Do you follow my surgeon's technique?
Yes — precisely. Protocols differ between surgeons and between techniques for the same operation, so we work from your specific instructions rather than a generic template, and contact your team if something needs clarifying.
How long does post-operative rehabilitation take?
Arthroscopy is often six to eight weeks. Joint replacement typically twelve to sixteen. ACL reconstruction runs nine to twelve months. You will get a specific estimate at your assessment.
My knee is stiff weeks after surgery — is that normal?
Some stiffness is expected, but range that stalls or goes backwards needs addressing quickly, because late stiffness is much harder to reverse. Tell us early rather than waiting for the next review.
Will you report progress to my surgeon?
Yes, with your consent we send written milestone updates at each review point so your surgical team can see how recovery is tracking.
